Acai Bowls and Green Juice Frappes
I just got back from Puerto Rico yesterday and while I was there I tried a green juice frappe and an acai bowl. Across the street from our hotel was a fruit and vegetable juice bar that was a distributor of Sambazon products. I had heard about acai bowls before and have seen them in juice bars in NYC but never had the urge to try one. I’ve actually never even tasted acai before so I wasn’t sure if I would like it but I figured I’d give it a try. I got a nutella acai bowl topped with strawberries, granola, and a drizzle of agave and ummmm why did I wait so long to try one of these?! Yeah who knows. Acai berries have an even higher amount of antioxidants than blueberries! They’re also high in healthy omegas and not to mention delish! I really want to try to make one of these soon and looked up where to purchase sambazon acai puree near me and there were so many places! I can’t wait to share my future experiments with you!
Green Juice Frappes? Okay so when I think of a frappe I think of starbucks immediately and blended coffee drinks. The drink I ordered was a Skinny Detox Frappe which was made of juiced lemon, ginger, and cucumber and blended with kale, pineapple, avocado, and a touch of agave (possibly frozen?). It was love at first sip. I never had a better green drink. Sometimes green juices are just too much for me. I really enjoy them but they’re not something I can drink too much of. Green smoothies have the same effect on me these days. I actually haven’t made a green smoothie in a year I’d say. This was the perfect balance of a green juice and refreshing blended ice smoothie. Okay I really can’t describe its perfection but I can’t wait to remake this one! Promise I’ll share so you guys can experiment and hopefully enjoy as much as I did!
Wow headstands are realllllllly hard. I give props to any and everyone who can control their bodies to do a headstand. My superstar pilates teacher and nutrition girl (shoutout to JPergs!) had me stay after pilates one day to take pictures of her doing a headstand she finally mastered. At first I was thinking I could probably do one- after all I am a retired gymnast…. Ok maybe I only did gymnastics for a few years and quit because I didn’t like people telling me what to do but still! After trying and of course falling over into a bridge I realized this was harder than I imagined. She of course held a perfect headstand for a while and it was super impressive after I tried and failed. I spent a few nights working on it and trying to get it down but I still haven’t been able to. That was like over a week ago… practice makes perfect though right? Good things come to those who wait right? They better! While I was in Puerto Rico I was trying to do headstands on the beach and a few times I held it but always wound up falling over at some point. My younger brother stepped up and said he’d show me how it was done. Yes, he did. He did perfect headstands with straight legs and even split leg (whatever the heck those yoga peeps call it). What a show off. It’s my new goal to be able to do a controlled headstand by the end of March! You should try it out. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress. P.S. I tried doing elbow stands and guess what? I was more successful with those! Less controlled than I’d like to be but I’ll work on that next. Always challenge your body-it’s fun and rewarding when you can finally master something!
