First of all, I hope everyone had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! I’ve slowly been trying to get back into the blogging spirit and hopefully I’ll have a lot of fun holiday posts to share with you all this season! I can’t believe Christmas is coming next!
So I’ve been on a hunt for a really good hot chocolate recipe sans TRANS FAT! I love love love hot chocolate during the holiday season- who doesn’t!? For those of you who don’t know, and in simplest terms, trans fat is the fat you never ever want to eat! Unfortunately, they hide it in all different foods to serve as a preservative so most times you eat something packaged with chocolate that doesn’t melt easily in heat, there’s trans fat hidden in there. Companies get away with adding it and not having to clearly write it on a food label if per serving it’s less than .5g. So, if per serving it’s .4 grams and you have 2 servings you’ve almost had a whole gram! They of course have to put it in ingredients so you’ll usually see it written as Partially Hydrogenated (Insert Oil Type Here) Oil. Those sneaky sneaky people! I explain trans fats the way I learned about them: if you don’t have enough fat cells to store fat, trans fats (chemically altered fats) will make more fat cells to store fat in- and beware, although you can burn off the fat stored inside, you can never get rid of the extra fat pockets it so generously created for you!
So, like I said I’ve been on the hunt for more natural hot chocolates and I’ve honestly not had much luck in local grocery stores. Almost all the packaged hot chocolates at my Stop n Shop has partially hydrogenated oil as well as artificial sweetener! I think I’m going to have to take a trip to whole foods for a remedy. In the meantime, I tried out mixing hot almond milk with pieces of a salted caramel chocolate bar that was deeeeelish but the combo didn’t turn out the way I was hoping. I still drank it (of course!) but I still haven’t mastered a healthy hot chocolate recipe. When I do, you’ll all be the first to know!
LITERALLY these scarfs are the besttttt fall and winter accessory out there: They’re scarves and BLANKETS at the same time! Mind, Blown. They’re perfect for travel, movies, coffee shops.. anywhere you might want to cozy up with a blanket without actually having to carry a blanket. I spent so much time trying to find one in the mall by me and happened to walk into a random store after giving up on looking. Of course that’s where I found the two I have now, at buy one get one 50% off! The store is called Garage. Check out my fav scarf here!
If you guys don’t know about this app and you’re pretty Instagram popular, I suggest you download it! Although I haven’t had the chance to use it yet I’m SO excited to try it out when I’m in Chicago next month. Basically, the app gives you locations where you can “buy” free products depending on the amount of followers you have on instagram. All you have to do is present the app and the offer and (I think) photograph whatever product, good, or service you’re receiving. I always said I was doing free advertising for so many businesses on instagram and this is an awesome way for these businesses to give back! Everyone wins. I’ll let you all know how it works once I, myself, get to try it out in December! But basically, if you’re in a major city, you should try it out. As of right now it looks like major cities are the only ones involved but I’m hoping it grows much bigger in the future!
